I was once asked by a ministry volunteer, “Brent, as a pastor, how do you know when you have completed anything in this line of work?” I muttered, “When all the people are dead.”
When running a company, managing a team, championing a cause or raising kids, it’s challenging to find the “off” switch. People are needy.
It’s why I like mowing the yard or painting the house. I can see a finished product.
It’s why I love watching sports and movies, there’s a beginning and an ending. (except for The Fast & The Furious, they just keep cranking ‘em out)
As a leader, you need to have “finish line” activities integrated into your life, the satisfaction of completing a task. Maybe knitting a scarf, going for a walk/run, playing a game (not Candy Crush…always more levels!), a round of golf or reading a book. Anything you can claim “Done!”
So, mowing is mine. Yours? (137 words)
